Digestion is the foundation for a healthy and disease free life. Every branch of medicine whether it be allopathy, naturopathy, Ayurveda or Homeopathy, all have emphasized on the importance of the digestion for a healthy living . This is mainly because the essential nutrients required for a body is obtained from a good digestive process. Without obtaining the essential nutrients, hormone-enzyme co-ordination and mental-physical balance cannot be achieved.
During the late 1980′s a research conducted at a prominent research facility in Stockholm suggested that, beyond the physical and mental health , the foundation of spiritual well being too is linked to the indestinal functions. This finding had won the Nobel prize that year. Majority of the 30 hormones that control our nervous system and brain is produced in the indestine. And for this a proper digestion is required.
A Nice Break Fast Is Important
Ayurveda suggests the inclusion of badam, ginger, honey and saffron in the daily diet. Though the ancient ayurveda suggests lighter break fast, lunch and dinner the latest findings suggest morning breakfast and supper to be rich. Further, the studies suggest an interval of four hours before taking any food after the major meal. In this way the breakfast should be heavy according to the modern thinking. This is because the physical and mental activity is heavily relied on the break fast which breaks almost a 12 hour starvation which occur between the dinner and the “break fast”. This is very true in school going childrens.
If you miss the breakfast you wont be able to concentrate on anything. You can reduce the size of the lunch if you had a nice breakfast. The concept of delaying food until hunger occurs is gaining more validity. This helps in proper digestion and offer enough rest for the digestive organs. Every meal should include a comprehensive diet. Then only will you receive a continious supply of energy and nutrients required for the body. It is observed that those who are working in busy offices suffer severe indigestion. This is because they are highly prone to skip the major meals due to their work commitments. These habbits which destroys the digestive system has to be avoided.
Importance of fruits in your diet
Fruits helps in digestion. Pappaya and pine apple are considered best for digestion. The fibers included in grapes, oranges and mangoes, helps the well being of the digestive organs and cures digestion based problems. These fruits helps the effective secretion of digestive juices. Fruits are better than fruit juices . Sprouted beans too are rich in nutrients like highly priced fruits. Substitute the food items having more fat with those containing amino acids, salines, vitamin C, and vitamin E. Include sprouted beans in your daily diet. This will complement the digestion process. A survey conducted by Wales University College of Science among women revealed that those who intake fruits exhibited a better mental health capacity. Though the prime motive for the majority were to keep a check on their weight, the effect of fruits in improving mental health were highly remarkable.
Drinking lot of water between the major meals dilutes the acidic content in the intestines and cures most of the digestion related problems. Tender coconut water is another rejavenating drink nature provides or rather a better subsitute for water. Vegetable soups are another nutrient rich food which helps digestion . One must completely avoid deep fried foods ,especially if you suffer from obesity, indigestion, acidity or gas trouble. Inclusion of milk in your daily diet not only helps the well being of the indestines but prevent the food from getting accumulated in the intestines and decay there.
One must consider his own fitness, digestion, age, daily activities and disease before planning the menu for the day. Way of eating too effects your well being. Commonly found mistakes ushc as chewing the food without closing your mouth, talking while eating and a hurried intake of food create digestive problem. Drinking water while eating should be avoided as this will dilute the digestive juices and enzymes that are required for the digestion.
