Breath is life.
Breathlessness for a prolonged period can turn fatal. A normal man exhales and inhales 15-16 times in a minute. This is breating. Vital force and oxygen is included in the air surrounding us. Oxygen purifies the blood passing through the lungs. Man can survive for many day without food. But life won’t survive without breath even for half an hour. So breathing has its importance in life’s existance. Ancient manuscripts about Yogi’s suggest many among them had exercised to live only on breathing on air.
Lungs is like a balloon . It intakes air while inhaling. Normal breath won’t even inflate lungs to half its capacity. If the air tubes are not clear the expansion will be much lesser. However if we consciously concentrate and slowly breath we inhale almost ten times more air than we normally inhale. Such an exercise of controlled breathing is called “Pranayama” in yoga. Exercising pranayama regularly helps to improve the expansion-contraction ratio of the lungs. This otherwise means the vital force and blood purification process improve on a regular pranayama exercise. Pranayama also helps you to control your mind and helps your spiritual wellbeing.
